1.0 Access to Student Records
1.1 In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, certain designated records will be available to students and/or their families, but access by other persons will be limited, and information may not be released except under provisions of law. (Education Code § 76210 and §§ 76240 - 76246, Title 5, §§ 54610 - 54628)
1.2 In compliance with the Act and California law, a student will be given the right to challenge the accuracy of his/her own records.
2.0 Method of Achieving Access to a Record
2.1 The Chancellor is authorized to establish regulations covering, but not limited to, the following:
2.1.1 Definition of a record;
2.1.2 methods of achieving access to a record;
2.1.3 annual announcements to students concerning their rights and responsibilities under the Act, including procedures for challenge.
3.0 Directory Information
3.1 Categories of student information defined as "Directory Information" shall be identified by the Chancellor and listed in the regulations. (Education Code §§ 76210 and 76240, Title 5 § 54626)
3.2 The Chancellor shall establish regulations concerning the release of directory information.
