Fall 2020 Update

How long will it take for students to get their books?

For orders placed on in-stock items that are not on back order, our goal is to process them in 24 hours. If you selected free curbside pick-up, then you will receive a confirmation email letting you know that your order is ready for pick-up.

Please note that orders placed at one location but requested to be picked up at another location will take longer to process due to nationwide USPS shipping delays (all retail shipping organizations – including large companies like Amazon – are experiencing similar delays). Expect an additional three to five days if you are trying to pick up your book at a location different than the location you ordered from. Your confirmation email will provide additional information.

How do I cancel an order?

Email your college store (see bookstore contact information) and they will help you process the cancellation.

How do students return books they bought but no longer need?

You can return your book during "limited contact" pick-up hours at your college bookstore or you can mail it to your college bookstore with a return request (see bookstore contact information).

From now until September 11, our pick-up hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 6 pm. We are closed on Monday, September 7 in observance of Labor Day.

Where is my order?

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic, smoke closures, and national shipping delays have led to slower than usual delivery times. We greatly appreciate your patience.

It typically takes 24 hours for orders to be processed and handed off to shipping service providers (all retail shipping organizations – including large companies like Amazon – are experiencing similar delays). We know it’s important for you to get your materials and textbooks as soon as possible and are doing everything we can to expedite the parts of the process in our control.

I heard the bookstore is closed due to bad air quality – can the bookstore just send students their books?

We are happy to say the bookstores are open and have extended pick-up hours. From now until September 11, our pick-up hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 6 pm. We are closed on Monday, September 7 in observance of Labor Day.

Though the bookstore could ship your books, due to nationwide shipping delays, it is taking an average of five to seven days for books to arrive at your address. We highly recommend curbside pick-up to ensure you get your textbooks as soon as possible.

Who can a student contact if an access code they purchased is not working?

Students will need to click on the link provided by the bookstore for a Brytewave or RedShelf eBook. If you are a first time user, then create an account and add the book PIN – which is located on your receipt just above the website log in ID – to your account.

For returning users, log in to your account and add the provided book PIN to your library.

If you are having issues with your access code, then reach out to the publisher's support team for immediate help. Most of our publishers provide a support team that can answer questions via chat on their website.

If the publisher's support team is unable to help you, them email your bookstore with the case number from the publisher's support team and we will exchange your code (see college bookstore contact information).

I accidentally purchased two of the same book – what do I do?

Email your college bookstore and they will work with you to process the cancellation (see college bookstore contact information).

My professor says we don't need the book anymore – what do I do?

You can return your book during "limited contact" pick-up hours at your college bookstore or you can mail it to your college bookstore with a return request (see bookstore contact information).

From now until September 11, our pick-up hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 6 pm. We are closed on Monday, September 7 in observance of Labor Day.

I bought the wrong book by accident – how do I get the correct book?

If the book is available in-store, then we can do an exchange at our pick-up window. You can also return the wrong book and purchase the correct book.

Why can’t I reach anyone when I call the bookstore?

We sincerely appreciate your patience as we work to respond to all questions and concerns in a timely manner. We have increased staffing at all of our locations to help address student phone calls and order processing.

If you call and are unable to reach a representative, then please leave a message. We will respond as quickly as possible.

I sent an email about my order – why has no one responded to me?

We are sorry for delays in response time and have added extra staff to help address student concerns as quickly as possible.

The COVID-19 pandemic and recent smoke closures have led to unexpected delays in order processing and shipping and staff is working around the clock to respond to students and process all orders. We appreciate your patience and will respond to you as soon as possible.

General FAQ

What is changing with the bookstores?

The Los Rios Community College District and our four colleges are committed to the success of our students. One continuing barrier to student success is the high cost of course materials. Our instructional and student services departments, in partnership with our college bookstores, have made great strides in lowering the cost of course materials for students. This has included a combination of zero-cost Open Educational Resources (OER), low-cost digital, rental, and used course materials options. Though we are proud of our efforts so far, we know there is more that we can do. To support our continued drive to lower the cost of course materials for our students, we have entered into a partnership with Follett Higher Education Group (Follett) to manage and operate our college bookstores.

Why was Follett chosen for bookstore services?

Follett has been in the higher education industry for more than 140 years. They operate over 100 two-year and four-year college bookstores in California and over 1,200 college bookstores throughout the United States and Canada.

Follett's expansive supply chain, economies of scale, innovative technology and course materials solutions ,focus on student affordability, and experience serving California community colleges will drive increased course materials savings for students. Follett supports course materials affordability through the nation's largest textbook rental program, an extensive selection of used, digital, new and OER course materials, as well as Follett's price matching program.

To show their commitment to affordability, Follett has guaranteed, subject to a penalty payment, that student course materials savings in the first year of the partnership will be at least $1,000,000.

When did the partnership with Follett begin?

The partnership with Follett began on June 1, 2020. Due to the uncertainty caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, Follett will operate online stores to support the needs of students and the colleges.

Is there a new bookstore website?

Yes, the new Los Rios bookstore website – serving all four Los Rios colleges – features a modern design and enhanced functionality. Students taking classes at more than one college will be able to purchase all course materials from one convenient online location.

If faculty create lab materials for their classes and would like the bookstore to sell them, then what is the process to get the lab materials printed?

Follett is coordinating the production of all course packs, syllabi, and other materials with the district. Due to Coronavirus restrictions and the inability to print materials on campus, Follett will be utilizing an outside vendor for these materials.

Will this still be possible for summer, or has Follett looked into any alternatives to help our students in this regard?
