Chemistry involves the study of chemical processes, compositions, and manipulation to better understand how materials are structured, change, and react in certain situations. Chemistry is a fundamental part of a variety of disciplines, from biological processes to industrial fabrication. We offer chemistry courses for both students pursuing scientifics careers and those in non-scientific fields. Our students conduct hands-on chemical experimentation in modern, well-equipped laboratories.

Geology is the study of the origin and evolution of the earth, utilizing the principles of mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology. The concept of geologic time and the principles of uniformitarianism help geologists to understand the processes that shape the earth and its environments. Geologists study rocks, minerals and fossils in an effort to draw conclusions about both the earth's observable surface processes that meet the eye, and the earth's interior.
Physics is the study of the nature and properties of matter and energy. Distinguished from chemistry and biology, physics includes the study of mechanics, heat, light and other radiation, sound, electricity, magnetism, and the structure of atoms. Career opportunities for those who study physics include:
The Science program provides a broad study in the fields of biological and physical sciences in preparation for transfer to a four-year program and continuation of studies in upper division science courses. Areas of study include Anthropology, Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Geography, Geology and Physics.
Welding encompasses study in electrical, metallurgy, chemistry, physics, design, and mechanical engineering.
Our Welding programs are designed for students seeking employment or advancing employment in welding fabrication and industrial repairs. Current job statistics show a long-term and growing industry demand for skilled welders with very good pay for those with experience.
The Welding program at Cosumnes River College specializes in welding training to meet current Welding Code Standards for Welder Operator Qualification. In addition, students are introduced to Cal-OSHA and Fed-OSHA safety standards and current industry welding procedures for the purpose of competitive employment. All welding graduates have the opportunity to become certified welders and/or certified forklift operators, and possess the Ten Hour OSHA Construction Safety Card.
Welding skills are also useful in conjunction with other technology areas such as:
