Advanced Education High School Student Admission and Enrollment Steps

Advanced Education is a program that allows current high school students to take classes at Los Rios Community College District. Advanced Education students may enroll in 11 units each semester (across the Los Rios district). Applications must be submitted to each individual college.


  • The student has started the 9th grade or will be at least 14 years old by the first day of instruction.
  • The course the student wants to take is not available at their high school (applies to the summer term only).
  • The student is prepared for advanced study as recommended by the high school principal or their designee.
  • The student has parental consent to be admitted and enroll at the college.

Not an Advanced Education Student?

What Type of Student Are You?

Apply to a Los Rios College

Create an OpenCCC account using a personal email (or log in if you already have an account) and fill out the online application for any of the Los Rios colleges. As an Advanced Education student, select enrolling in high school and college at the same time.

Continuing/Current Students

If you are a continuing (current) student, then you need to submit a supplemental enrollment form each semester instead of a CCCApply application. You can find the Supplemental Enrollment Form in eServices. The form asks you to review and update your contact information, education goal, and major.

Students Must Reside in California

Students who are not physically located in California may not enroll in online courses offered by Los Rios Community College District. Los Rios Community College District is not authorized to provide education outside the boundaries of the State of California.

Complete the Advanced Education Application

Read and complete the entire Advanced Education application.

The application allows students to request up to six classes to expedite enrollment. These courses should be listed in order of preference with the number of courses requested, and these recommendations will be used by the Admissions office to enroll students as course availability allows. If none of the requested courses are available – or if you decide to take more classes after the packet has been submitted and approved – then you may submit an add/drop slip to your college's Admissions and Records office to request additional enrollment in classes at your college.

The Advanced Education application requires parental consent and a recommendation by your high school principal or authorized designee. Students are highly encouraged to discuss prospective courses with their parent and high school counselor before enrolling. The completed application requires signatures from you, your parent/guardian, and your high school counselor/authorized designee.

You can list up to six (6) course options on your application; however, you may enroll in a maximum of eleven units per semester across the Los Rios colleges.

Note: Download the application to your computer before typing in order to save your information. Do not fill out the application in your internet browser window.

If you are applying to ARC, FLC, or SCC, then after you meet with your high school counselor, they will submit your Advanced Education application packet on your behalf.

If you are applying to CRC, then you will submit your Advanced Education application packet via an online form after you meet with your counselor.

Set Up eServices and Los Rios Gmail

eServices is Los Rios' online student portal where students manage their information, records, classes, and more.

After your application is processed, you will receive an email with your Los Rios student ID number (also known as a "W" number or "wID"). This is a seven-digit number with a preceding "W"; for example, W0000001.

You will use your Los Rios ID and password to log in to multiple services, including Canvas, eServices, Los Rios Gmail, and instructional lab computers.

Students who submit an application without a social security number (SSN) should contact the Admissions and Records Office at the college to which they applied to expedite the processing of their application:

Check Your Math and English Placement

Your placement helps you determine which math, English, or English as a Second Language (ESL) courses you should enroll in.

If you provided your GPA and the last math and English classes you took in high school on your application, then your placement information is automatically updated in eServices.

From your eServices dashboard, click Academic Record, and then click Placements to view your math and English placements.

If you did not enter your high school information on your application, then you may need to submit your high school transcripts or complete a self-evaluation to receive your math and English placement.

Meet With a High School Counselor

Meet with your high school counselor (or designee) to discuss the courses you wish to take.

Your high school counselor will fill out their portion of the Advanced Education application.

If you are applying to ARC, FLC, or SCC, then your high school counselor will submit your application to the Los Rios college to which you've applied using their school email:

(High school counselors should copy both the student and parent(s) when emailing the college.)

If you are applying to CRC, then you will submit your Advanced Education application packet via an online form after you meet with your counselor.

The email must have the following attachments:

  • Completed Advanced Education Application (PDF), including up to six (6) courses approved for enrollment with the Class Name and Class Number. Example: SOC 300, #22323.
  • High school transcript (if your requested courses have prerequisite requirements).
  • Private school affidavit, when applicable.
  • Age documentation of 14 years of age or older when not displayed on the transcript.

Los Rios Community College District employees cannot recommend courses for Advanced Education students per California Education Code 48800.

After your packet is reviewed, you will receive an email notification with your application status.

ARC Students

If you applied to American River College, then you will receive one of the following email notifications after your packet is reviewed:

  • If approved, then Admissions and Records Office will enroll you in your selected classes and send you an email confirmation. Log in to your eServices account to see your enrollment date.
  • Notice that you are missing a document with instructions on how to submit missing materials.
  • Denial with further instructions.

CRC, FLC, and SCC Students

If you applied to Cosumnes River College, Folsom Lake College, or Sacramento City College, then check your email for one of the following notifications:

  • If approved, then Admissions and Records Office will enroll you in your selected classes and send you an email confirmation. Log in to your eServices account to see your enrollment date.

Pay Your Fees

Pay your fees after you are enrolled in classes.

Tuition fees are waived* for Advanced Education students – however, you are responsible for paying the rest of your fees, including the Universal Transit Pass (UTP) and student representation fees.

You can see how much you owe and pay your fees in eServices. From your dashboard, click Financial Account, then Account Balance.

* Tuition fees are not waived for international students.
